case study: sacred heart nativity schools

the client

Sacred Heart Nativity Schools is a middle school in San Jose that transforms lives through education by laying the foundation for young students to succeed in college prep high school programs, post-secondary education (college, trade/tech/vocational, military service), and beyond.

The Schools provide a Catholic education for students of low-income families with priority given to those of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish community.

Their work goes far beyond the classroom, offering holistic programs that support students from middle school through high school and beyond.

Their audience includes:

Donors & supporters

Prospective families

Alumni & community members

Board & stakeholders

the challenge

the objective

To transform Sacred Heart Nativity’s visual communication into a clear, consistent, and strategic system that reflects the full depth of its impact.

  • Establish a cohesive visual and content framework across platforms.

  • Communicate the school’s mission in a clear, engaging, and people-centered way.

  • Ensure each area of the school’s work is represented thoughtfully and cohesively.

  • Transform the annual report into a compelling and engaging communication tool.

Sacred Heart Nativity was doing incredible, life-changing work—but their visual communication didn’t fully reflect the depth of their impact.

  • Social media content varied across platforms, making it difficult to maintain a cohesive and recognizable identity.

  • Without a defined strategy, it was challenging to consistently communicate the school’s full story and impact.

  • The full breadth of programs wasn’t being clearly or consistently represented.

  • The report lacked strong storytelling and visual clarity to fully engage donors.

the strategy

To create a more intentional and sustainable approach to communication, I developed a structured content and visual strategy built around four core content pillars, designed to bring consistency, clarity, and stronger storytelling across all platforms, and represent the full experience of Sacred Heart Nativity.

Pathways & Possibilities

Faith, Formation & Community

strategic priorities

Content was guided by four key goals to ensure it not only looked consistent, but communicated impact effectively.

Storytelling
Creating authentic, people-centered content

Community Awareness
Clearly communicating who the school serves and why it matters

design approach

To support the strategy, the visual direction focused on creating a brand presence that feels both warm and credible—resonating with donors while remaining accessible to families and the broader community.

Structured, consistent templates
Creating cohesion across all platforms.

Photography-driven storytelling
Highlighting real people and real experiences.

In addition, I met with staff across the organization to gain a deeper understanding of each program, ensuring every area of impact was accurately represented and aligned with the overall strategy.

client testimonial

“Sacred Heart Nativity Schools is a small, independent Catholic Jesuit School in San Jose. When we acquired Angela's services, we had an advancement and marketing team of one. We desperately needed Angela's expertise to revamp our social media presence and create a brand that is consistent and easily recognizable. More importantly, Angela's responsiveness and her ability and willingness to get to know our community were instrumental in being able to tell our story with integrity and authenticity.”
